Dear OCPA Members and Friends,
After the APS and the AAAS had sent their letters to Attorney
General
on February 29, 2000, to express their concerns on the pretrial
detention of Dr. Wen Ho Lee, the OCPA Council held emergency
sessions
and voted unanimously to send a letter to Attorney General to
voice
our concerns. The OCPA letter, which was composed and revised
by OCPA
Council members, was sent to Attorney General on March 15, 2000,
with
copies to Vice-President Albert Gore and Energy Secretary Bill
Richardson. A copy of the letter is enclosed below.
Please be informed that by roughly the first week in April, Janet
Reno
will have to decide whether to continue the present stark conditions
of Lee's detention, because under the regulations governing those
detention conditions of Dr. Wen Ho Lee, the detention conditions
must
be re-authorized by the Attorney General every 120 days.
Those of us who are concerned about Dr. Wen Ho Lee's consitutional
right of posting bail and the harsh conditions of Lee's pretrial
detention should join in to write individual letters to Attorney
General Janet Reno, Vice-President Gore, and Energy Secretary
Bill
Richardson. Please encourage your friends to write also.
